Kyle Hendricks (0-0, -.–/-.–/-.–) vs. Homer Bailey (8-5, 4.15/1.35/3.87)
The Cubs wrap up the five-game series and 11-game road trip this afternoon against the Reds. And the Cubs will turn to rookie Kyle Hendricks to snap the team’s six-game losing skid in his big league debut. The Cubs are 4-6 on the trip with one game left to play.
The Cubs will officially select Kyle Hendricks’ contract from Triple-A Iowa, add him to the 40-man roster and call Hendricks up to face the Reds this afternoon.
While Kyle Hendricks is settling in and concentrating on keeping the Reds off the scoreboard, the Cubs offense will try to string hits together against Homer Bailey. The Cubs have stopped hitting with runners in scoring position again. The Cubs are 5-for-34 over the last four games with RISP and have left 35 men on base. Until improvements are made with the offense, the losing will continue. There are only a few pitching staffs in the majors that can put wins on the board without consistent run support. There is just no room for error for the pitching staff right now.

Kyle Hendricks is making his big league debut today. And the Cubs do not plan for him to go back down this season. The Cubs are looking forward to see how he pitches the rest of the year at the big league level.
