Kris Bryant Hit a Mammoth Home Run for Iowa and Jorge Soler Went Yard for Tennessee

July 11, 2014 1:00 pm By Neil 11 Comments

Kris Bryant and Jorge Soler had good games for Iowa and Tennessee in losing efforts Thursday night. Bryant went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and a strikeout in Iowa’s 7-1 loss to Omaha. And at Smokies Park, Jorge Soler went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout in Tennessee’s 6-5 loss to Jacksonville. Addison Russell collected his first two hits (2-for-5) since last Friday’s trade.

Kris Bryant launched his ninth Triple-A homer in the seventh and tied the Rangers’ Joey Gallo for the minor league lead with his 31st longball of the season. Bryant, along with Javier Baez, will leave the I-Cubs following Friday’s game in order to travel to Minneapolis to take part in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday afternoon.

Kris Bryant has slowed down a little of late. In his last 10 games, Bryant is only hitting .342/.390/.658 with three doubles, three home runs, three walks and 14 strikeouts for a 1.048 OPS. Bryant is batting .329/.400/.718 with six doubles, nine home runs, 10 walks, 30 strikeouts and a 1.118 OPS in 23 games for Iowa. And neither Bryant nor Javier Baez has been as productive since the two prospects started hitting back-to-back in Iowa’s lineup.

For the season, Kris Bryant is hitting .348/.444/.706 with 26 doubles, 31 home runs, 235 total bases and a 1.150 OPS. Bryant’s 31 home runs are tied for tops in the minors with the Rangers’ prospect Joey Gallo.

PrintJorge Soler has played in four games since returning from DL with the nagging hamstring injuries. And Soler has hit the baseball out of the park while collecting seven hits and two walks in 13 at bats. Jorge Soler hit his third home run in as many starts Thursday and now has 11 extra basehits in 11 games for Double-A Tennessee. Soler has collected 15 hits at the Double-A level.

Jorge Soler is 15-for-37 in 11 games with eight doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, five walks and eight strikeouts. Soler has put together a .405/.476/.865 line with a 1.341 OPS.
