The top two prospects in the Cubs system will participate in the upcoming SiriusXM Futures Game at Target Field on Sunday, July 13 as part of the All-Star Game festivities in Minneapolis.
Kris Bryant was named to the U.S. Team and Javier Baez was named to the World Team and will represent the Cubs Minor League system in the 16th Annual event.
MLB Network will televise the game that begins at 4:00pm CDT with play-by-play on MLB Network Radio.
Tom Kelly, longtime Twins manager, will be the skipper for the U.S. Team and Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven will call the shots for the World Team. The Futures Game rosters are composed of 27 of the top 100 prospects in baseball including five of the top 10 in Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa (Astros), Francisco Lindor (Indians) and Noah Syndergaard (Mets).
And there are three players that are scheduled to participate in the game that have been connected to the Cubs in the Jeff Samardzija trade rumors.
LHP Daniel Norris and OF Dalton Pompey are representing the Blue Jays. Norris is on the U.S. Team while Pompey is on the World Team roster. RHP Hunter Harvey was named to the U.S. Team as one of the Orioles two representatives.
Javier Baez went 1-for-2 with a RBI and two walks Tuesday and is now hitting .229/.285/.424 in 66 games this season with a .710 OPS. Baez has hit 11 doubles, two triples and 11 home runs. Over his last 10 games, Baez is 11-for-38 with one double, two home runs, three walks, 11 strikeouts and five stolen bases for a .289/.341/.474 slash line with a .815 OPS.
Kris Bryant has played in six games for the Iowa Cubs and has five hits, and all five have left the park. Bryant is 5-for-21 with three walks and a .238/.333/.952/1.286 line.
