The Cubs announced Wednesday morning Kris Bryant has been promoted from Double-A Tennessee to Triple-A Iowa. Kris Bryant broke the news of his promotion on his Twitter account and the team confirmed the promotion shortly after he thanked the Smokies for his time in Tennessee.
Kris Bryant is expected to report Thursday to Iowa. The I-Cubs are hosting El Paso and just started a seven-game homestand.
Kris Bryant finished his time at the Double-A level with three Southern League Hitter of the Week Awards and was the Cubs Player of the Month for May. Bryant hit .355/458/.702 with 20 doubles, 22 home runs and a 1.160 OPS in 68 games. Bryant hit .373/.476/.765/.1.241 in the 14 games leading up to the break with five doubles, five home runs, 11 walks and 15 strikeouts.
Kris Bryant leaves Double-A Tennessee at the top of a majority of the offensive categories in the Southern League: .355 (AVG), .458 (OBP), .702 (SLG), 1.160 (OPS), 22 (HR), 58 (RBI), 174 (TB), 43 (BB) and is third in the league with 20 doubles.
The front office has not addressed where Kris Bryant will play or how his promotion will affect the development of Christian Villanueva. The Cubs see Bryant as a third baseman and he has worked hard at improving his defense this season with the Smokies.
