June 28, 2014 3:45 pm By Neil 25 Comments

Arismendy Alcantara had another big game at the plate Friday night in Colorado. Alcantara went 4-for-6 with a three-run homer, four RBI and three runs scored. Alcantara has really excelled in the leadoff spot for the I-Cubs. Alcantara has reached base safely in 10 of his last 11 games and is riding a six-game hitting streak. Alcantara has recorded seven multi-hit games in his last 10.

Over his last 10 games, while playing second base and centerfield, Arismendy Alcantara is 18-for-39 with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, five walks, nine strikeouts and six stolen bases … .462/.511/.795/1.306. For the month of June (26 games), Alcantara is slashing .340/.391/.560 with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs, nine walks, 23 strikeouts, eight stolen bases and a .951 OPS.

For the season, the switch-hitting Arismendy Alcantara is batting .301/.343/.547 with 21 doubles, 10 triples, 10 home runs and a .890 OPS. Alcantara leads the PCL in triples (10), fourth in doubles (21), ninth in hits (87), third in total bases (158) and sixth in stolen bases (18).

Arismendy Alcantara continues to work counts and has really improved his approach at the plate over the last two seasons.

Arismendy Alcantara is on the Cubs’ 40-man roster and can be called up without the Cubs having to make a roster move. Alcantara is currently on an optional assignment with the Iowa Cubs after being added to the 40-man roster in the off-season.

The Iowa Cubs lit up the scoreboard Friday night in Colorado Springs. The I-Cubs topped the Sky Sox 16-3 with Chris Rusin picking up the win. And Rusin hit the first home run of his professional career. Iowa pounded out a season-high 19 hits. Veteran Chris Valaika hit a grand slam and Rafael Lopez recorded his first double at the Triple-A level.

Kris Bryant went 3-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and a RBI in the win. Bryant has hit safely in six straight games. Bryant is 10-for-33 with three doubles, five home runs, five walks and 14 strikeouts in nine games with Iowa … .303/.395/.848/1.243.

Javier Baez was 1-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored Friday night and has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. Baez has four walks and 13 strikeouts in his last 39 at bats. Over his last 10 games, Baez is hitting .333/.395/.410 with three doubles, two stolen bases and a .806 OPS (13-for-39).

As Tom mentioned in his minor league notes, Josh Vitters is receiving regular playing time (first base and left field) and is batting .389/.405/.556 in his last 10 games with three doubles, one home run and a .961 OPS. In 21 games this month, Vitters is hitting .311/.346/.405/.752.

In four games with Iowa since his promotion, Armando Rivero has allowed two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Rivero has not allowed a run … 0.00 ERA, 0.46 WHIP.

Arodys Vizcaino has pitched better than his numbers indicate since his promotion. Vizcaino gave up two runs on four hits and a walk in his first game in a third of an inning. Over his last two appearances, Vizcaino has not allowed a run while giving up two hits and one walk with a strikeout.

Kyle Hendricks notched his PCL best ninth win Thursday night and is 9-5 in 15 starts this season with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. Over his last five starts, Hendricks is 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP (13 runs, 25 hits, seven walks and 27 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings).
