According to multiple reports, the Cubs have activated OF Justin Ruggiano from the 15-day disabled list and optioned OF Ryan Kalish to Triple-A Iowa.
Ruggiano was placed on the 15-day DL on April 24 with a left hamstring strain. Ruggiano has been on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa for the last week and has played in six games. Ruggiano hit .143/.280/.190 with a double and three walks.
Ryan Kalish made the team out of Spring Training and has hit .242/.303/.330 in limited time with two doubles, three triples and a .633 OPS.
The addition of Ruggiano to the active roster should help against left handed pitchers. The Cubs were expected to stay with a 13-man pitching staff until Ruggiano was activated. With choosing to send out Kalish, he will not be able to be recalled for 10 days.
Ryan Kalish said he needs at bats every day and understands the move. Kalish also said he is looking forward to working with Manny Ramirez.
