Travis Wood (5-4, 4.35/1.26/3.72) vs. Marco Estrada (4-2, 3.98/1.13/5.42)
The Cubs begin the last leg of the three-city, 10 games in 11 days trip tonight with the first of three against the Brewers. The Cubs are 3-4 over the first seven games and will not only be looking to end their two-game losing skid tonight behind Travis Wood, but will also try to put runs on the board.
The offense has not scored since the seventh inning of Monday’s game, 20 innings, and had plenty of chances to put runs on the board the last two games in San Francisco.
Rick Renteria will have Wesley Wright back in the bullpen tonight. Wright was on paternity leave over the last two games in San Francisco. The Cubs optioned Blake Parker back to Iowa on Thursday and officially activated Wright from the paternity list.
Travis Wood will square off against Marco Estrada tonight for the third time this season. Wood lost to Estrada on April 26 at Miller Park and beat him at Wrigley on May 18. After tonight’s rematch of a rematch between Wood and Estrada, Jason Hammel is scheduled to face Wily Peralta on Saturday afternoon. Jeff Samardzija and Kyle Lohse will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon. The Cubs will not face Matt Garza this weekend.
The Cubs and Brewers have split their first six games. The Cubs took two of three from the Brewers at Wrigley earlier this month after losing two of three in Milwaukee at the end of April.
Tonight it all starts with Travis Wood …
Travis Wood is coming off a very good outing in San Diego. Wood has put together back-to-back solid starts since his dud on the South Side and a win in St. Louis in which he gave up five runs, four earned, on five hits in six innings. Wood is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 5.17 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP, and outside of Wrigley this season, 2-3 in five starts with a 6.59 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.
Wood faces the Brewers for the third time on the year tonight. Wood has been very good and not-so-good in his two outings. Wood is 1-1 with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. When he faced Milwaukee at Wrigley Field on May 18, the Brewers managed only two runs on two hits with three walks. Wood struck out seven batters in seven innings.
