According to a report from Mick Gillispie, the Cubs will place RHP Ivan Pineyro on the minor league 7-day disabled list with a right forearm strain. Pineyro is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the Cubs’ system.
The Cubs acquired Ivan Pineyro from the Nationals for OF Scott Hairston last July 8 and he pitched in eight games, plus the postseason for the Daytona Cubs.
Ivan Pineyro posted a 3-1 record in eight starts for Daytona after the trade with the Nationals. In 45 innings, Pineyro struck out 38 batters with nine walks and 44 hits allowed (3.40 ERA, 1.18 WHIP).
Pineyro was assigned to Double-A Tennessee after Spring Training and was off to a good start to his season prior to his last outing. Pineyro allowed six runs on nine hits with one walks and one strikeout in four innings on May 10. For the season, Ivan Pineyro is 0-2 in seven starts with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. In 35 innings this season, Pineyro allowed 19 runs, 14 earned, on 37 hits with 17 walks and 29 strikeouts.
The Cubs have not addressed his injury or how long the organization anticipates Ivan Pineyro to be on the disabled list.
