Report: Cubs Prospect C.J. Edwards to Be Examined by Team Doctors

April 23, 2014 11:34 pm By Neil 12 Comments

According to a report from the Sun-Times, C.J. Edwards left the Tennessee Smokies on Wednesday “after experiencing discomfort in his shoulder during a scheduled side session.” Edwards will be examined by team doctors on Thursday in Chicago according to the report.

The Sun-Times report added, “It is unclear how serious the injury is. Edwards did not seem to believe it was severe.”

C.J. Edwards is coming off a season-high six inning start last Sunday. Edwards is 1-0 in four starts this year with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. In 20 2/3 innings, Edwards has allowed 14 hits with eight walks and 20 strikeouts.

Edwards’ last start was a third of an inning longer than his second outing of the season. Edwards had good velocity on Sunday and appeared to be throwing free and easy.
