Javier Baez Activated from the Disabled List

April 20, 2014 6:05 pm By Neil 4 Comments

A week after being placed on the 7-day DL with a left ankle sprain, the Iowa Cubs activated Javier Baez from the disabled list and he was in Iowa’s starting lineup on Easter Sunday. The I-Cubs put Baez on the DL with a left ankle injury that he suffered taking infield practice on Friday, April 11 before the opener in Memphis.

Javier Baez was eligible to come off the DL on Friday but took a couple of extra days as expected. Baez went through running drills and played catch earlier in the week as he rehabbed the injury. Baez hit in the cage prior to Saturday’s game and passed all of the team’s tests on Sunday morning.

Marty Pevey has not said when Javier Baez will play in the field again. Baez was the I-Cubs’ designated hitter on Sunday and hit third in the lineup. Baez just missed a home run in his first at bat and ended up striking out. Baez struck out swinging in his second at bat, popped out to short in his third plate appearance and was called out on strikes in his fourth at bat.

Javier Baez is hitting .133/.188/.367 with one double, two home runs, two walks and 13 strikeouts in nine games. It has not been a good first three weeks of the season for Baez and he needs to put it behind him and start over on Monday.
