Daytona Cubs Announce Tentative Opening Day Roster

March 30, 2014 1:14 pm By Neil 17 Comments

The reigning Florida State League Champions begin the defense of their title on Thursday at Brevard County and the Daytona Cubs released the roster manager Dave Keller should begin the season with on Sunday morning.

Top prospects Albert Almora, Dan Vogelbach, Jeimer Candelario and Rob Zastryzny highlight the D-Cubs’ first roster of the season along with infielder/outfielder Rock Shoulders and infielder Tim Saunders.

PrintArodys Vizcaino is on the D-Cubs tentative Opening Day roster as he continues to build back arm strength from Tommy John surgery. Vizcaino is on the Cubs’ 40-man roster and does not figure to be in High-A ball long if he dominates the way he should and does not have any setbacks.

The Daytona Cubs will begin the season with 13 pitchers and 13 position players on the active roster. The D-Cubs can carry 35 players on their reserve roster and 25 players on the active roster. Daytona cannot have more than two players with more than five years of minor league service time on the roster.
