Cubs Trim Two Players from Spring Roster

March 14, 2014 1:40 pm By Neil 1 Comment

The Cubs announced two more spring roster moves Friday. Two days after trimming the spring roster by ten players, the Cubs optioned RHP Dallas Beeler to Triple-A Iowa and reassigned RHP Marcus Hatley. With the two moves, the Cubs spring roster officially stands at 54 players.

Neither roster move should come as a surprise. Beeler needs more time in the minors and Hatley could use a little more time as well but could see action in the Cubs’ pen before the end of the season. Dallas Beeler made three appearances in Cactus League play and allowed three runs on nine hits with three walks and no strikeouts in seven innings (3.86 ERA, 1.71 WHIP). Marcus Hatley ended up with a 1-1 record in four relief appearances. Hatley allowed one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts in three innings of work (3.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP).

After two rounds of spring roster cuts, the Cubs have 54 players officially left on the team’s spring roster.
