According to multiple reports, the Cubs claimed RHP Liam Hendriks off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
Liam Hendriks was designed for assignment on Dec. 5 to make room on Twins’ 40-man roster for RHP Phil Hughes.
With the addition of Hendriks, the Cubs’ 40-man roster stands at 39 players.
Liam Hendriks turns 25 on February 10 and is 6-foot-1, 205 pounds. Hendriks features a low 90s fastball, slider, cutter, curve and changeup.
Hendriks put together a very good season in 2012. In 16 Triple-A starts, Hendriks posted a 9-3 record with a 2.20 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. Hendriks did not fare as well at the Triple-A level last year and went 4-8 in 16 starts with a 4.67 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP.
Hendriks has struggled throwing strikes in the big leagues and was 1-3 in 10 games, eight starts, for the Twins last season with a 6.85 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP.
