The Cubs finalized the deal with the Dodgers on Tuesday and sent Carlos Marmol, cash and the no. 4 international signing bonus slot money to Los Angeles for RHP Matt Guerrier.
The Cubs will pay nearly $2 million of the remaining $5 million on Marmol’s contract and the Dodgers receive $209,000 in international slot money. The Sun-Times reported that the Cubs will get about $1 million in payroll relief on the Marmol deal at the end of the day.
Matt Guerrier is on the final season of the three-year, $12 million contract he signed in December of 2010. The Dodgers designed the 34-year old for assignment on Sunday after posting a 2-3 record in 34 games with a 4.80 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. In 30 innings, Guerrier allowed 16 earned runs on 32 hits with 21 strikeouts and 12 walks in 34 appearances. Guerrier is owed the remainder of a $4.75 million contract.
