From the Wire … Cubs Call-up RHP Eduardo Sanchez

July 26, 2013 4:52 pm By Neil 3 Comments

According to multiple reports, the Cubs selected the contract of RHP Eduardo Sanchez from Triple-A Iowa and added him to the active roster. Sanchez will take the spot on the 25-man roster vacated by the trade of Alfonso Soriano.

The Cubs will play with a short-bench for the next few days. The Cubs do not have a day off until August 5 and have a day-night doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday at Wrigley against the Brewers. Jake Arrieta is expected to be recalled for the day to start one of the games.

With the addition of Eduardo Sanchez, the Cubs’ 40-man roster stands at 40 players.

The Cubs claimed Eduardo Sanchez off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals on May 21. The Cubs designated Sanchez for assignment on June 12 and he reported to Iowa on June 14.

In 19 games with Iowa this season, Sanchez posted a 1-1 record with a 3.70 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP … 24 strikeouts, 17 walks and 17 hits allowed in 24 1/3 innings.
