Albert Almora Named Midwest League Player of the Week

May 28, 2013 10:05 pm By Neil 1 Comment

Albert Almora made his Kane County Cougars debut and hit the ground running in his first action in Low-A ball. Almora followed his 3-for-4 performance that included a double, a RBI and a run scored in his first game on May 22 with a 4-for-7 effort the next day that included two doubles and a run scored. Almora’s performance earned him Midwest League Player of the Week honors for the week of May 20-26.

Albert Almora is hitting .519/.567/.704 with five doubles, two walks, two strikeouts and a 1.270 OPS in seven games with the Cougars while reportedly playing an excellent centerfield. Almora left Monday’s game early after tweaking his hamstring trying to make a catch in the outfield. Almora said he would be back in a couple of days at the time of the injury and he is officially listed as day-to-day.

Albert Almora joins Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, Ryan Searle, Dustin Geiger and Rock Shoulders as Cubs’ prospects that have been named players or pitchers of the week down on the farm this season.
