Kane County Cougars Release Preliminary 2013 Opening Day Roster

April 1, 2013 10:00 pm By Neil 5 Comments

The Kane County Cougars released their preliminary Opening Day roster on Monday afternoon. The Cougars have to make one more roster move prior to Thursday’s season opener at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark against the Quad Cities River Bandits.

The team announced a list of 26 players that will comprise the Opening Day roster. Mark Johnson will lead the Cougars this season after calling the shots for the Boise Hawks last year. Ron Villone (pitching coach), Tom Beyers (hitting coach), Shane Nelson (trainer) and Mike Megrew (strength and conditioning coach) rounds out the Cougars’ coaching staff.

The Opening Day roster will feature several of the top prospects in the Cubs’ system: Dan Vogelbach, Jeimer Candelario, Marco Hernandez and Gioskar Amaya along with one of the top pitchers in the system, Pierce Johnson.

The active roster limit for Single-A teams is 25 players, with a 35-player reserve roster limit.
