Cubs Sign Jose Morales to Minor League Contract

April 20, 2013 10:54 am By Neil 5 Comments

According to Baseball America, the Cubs signed veteran catcher Jose Morales to a minor league contract.

The 30-year old Morales spent last season in the Pirates organization. Morales hit .266/.350/.335/.695 with six doubles, one triple and one home run in 58 games with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Jose Morales was the third round pick of the Twins in the 2001 draft. Morales last played in the big leagues in 2011. In 22 games with the Rockies, Morales hit .267/.352/.317/.669 with three doubles.

The Cubs catching depth in the upper levels of the system took a hit when Steve Clevenger went on the disabled list last week. Clevenger will be out for an extended period of time after being placed on the DL with a strained oblique.
