From the Wire … Starling Peralta Returned to the Cubs

March 15, 2013 10:10 am By Neil 9 Comments

According to the transactions page on Cubs.com, the Cubs received RHP Starling Peralta back from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Arizona selected the 22-year old pitcher in last December’s Rule 5 Draft.

Peralta struggled with the D-Backs this spring. In four Cactus League appearances, Peralta allowed seven runs on five hits with three walks and no strikeouts in just three innings of work (21.00 ERA and 2.67 WHIP).

Starling Peralta has very good stuff but has not pitched above A-ball. In 20 games, 17 starts, for the Peoria Chiefs last year, Peralta was 5-8 with a 3.44 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP (86 strikeouts and 42 walks in 99 1/3 innings).
