Five Cubs Make Keith Law’s List of Top Prospects in the Game

February 5, 2013 11:15 am By Neil 6 Comments

Keith Law released his ranking of the top 100 prospects in the game on Tuesday morning, along with the ten that just missed the list.

Five of the top players in the Cubs’ system made Keith Law’s ranking of the top 110 prospects in the game … Javier Baez (31), Albert Almora (33), Jorge Soler (42), Arodys Vizcaino (64) and Jeimer Candelario (106).

A day after ranking the Cubs with the fifth best system in the game, Keith Law placed five of the system’s top players among the best prospects in the game. The inclusion of Javier Baez, Albert Almora and Jorge Soler comes as no surprise. Many feel the top three players in the Cubs system are among the top 50 prospects in the game.

Keith Law has always been high on Arodys Vizcaino and by Law ranking him in his top 100 further proves that point. Vizcaino is coming off Tommy John surgery and Law sees him the same way the Cubs do, as a top of the rotation starter. Vizcaino has electric stuff, a top-of-the-rotation arsenal with a lighting quick arm. Law feels if he can fully recover from last March’s surgery while working on his command and refining his changeup then the Cubs might end up with a much-need top of the rotation starter.

Jeimer Candelario has impressed in a short time. The 19-year old third baseman played in Boise last season and as Law pointed out, he is on offensive third baseman. Candelario has “great rhythm at the plate and a smooth swing” but Law is not sure if he can stay at third base. Law added, “if you squint, you might see a Pablo Sandoval future here.”
