According to the transactions page on Cubs.com, the Cubs designated Jeff Beliveau for assignment on Thursday. Beliveau was inconsistent a year ago while splitting time with the Cubs and Triple-A Iowa and struggled with throwing strikes.
By designating Beliveau for assignment, the Cubs opened a spot on the 40-man roster which officially stands at 39 players. Jeff Beliveau made his big league debut on July 22 and in 22 games he posted a 1-0 record with a 4.58 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP … 12 walks and 17 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings.
