Well, hello again everybody. It has been awhile since I shared my ridiculous and random stream of consciousness with everyone. My sincerest apologies. Life got in the way as a trip to Ireland, and that pesky thing called a “work conference” prevented me from rambling about all things Cubs including a great weekend in Pittsburgh and due propers to Alfonso Soriano who apparently hooked up with Ponce De Leon last offseason.
So, let’s get down to it and talk about the Cubs, and probably a couple of other things …
- Alfonso Soriano is going to hit 30 homers with 100+ RBI’s and quite possible ONE error. Chalk that one up in the “Didn’t see that coming” column.
- And I don’t care if it happened during a lost season. I didn’t think he was even capable of that output, and that crazy small number from a defensive perspective.
- Way to keep digging, ‘Fonz.
- At said work conference, I had little access to a TV, so I was relying on twitter. When I started reading about Rizzo’s gymnastics routine at first base or pole-vaulting attempt (whatever Olympic event it was compared to), I just started laughing.
- Of course that would happen. I am very thankful he seems to be okay. Still haven’t seen the play.
- I like seeing that Welington Castillo has greatly improved his batting average. He could get close to .300 before the season is out. That would be a nice thing.
- BJax has struck out 48 times in 94 at-bats. That is staggering. That pace would come close to 300 strikeouts when extrapolated over a complete season. WOW.
- Samardzija’s 9-13 record while posting a 3.81 ERA sums up this season as well as any other stat. Or does it?
- Is there a stat based on individual performance that is more suited to describe the season? Let’s see what everyone can come up with to accurately convey this downright abysmal season.
- Did anyone see the “Friends” episode where Joey thought the word abysmal meant “good?”
- Wow, I just admitted to the entire blogosphere that I watched Friends.
- Travis Wood was throwing a no-hitter for awhile on Wednesday night. Ha. That was funny.
- I’d still make that trade 10 out of 10 times. I expect to hear it on this one.
- I was reading Vineline recently and saw where in a Q & A with Sveum, that Brooks Raley was listed with Vitters and Jackson as top prospects? Am I miss something? Brooks Raley? Seriously?
- Please, someone, educate me on that one.
- If you have not been to Ireland, you should go. Fantastic place. Great people. Awesome golf. We won’t talk about the food.
- And the Guinness, oh how good the Guinness tastes. Much better than here. And I am not a Guinness drinker.
- Barring a major change, Anthony Rizzo will end the year with the best batting average on the team. Not a shabby start. Slow and steady wins the race. Remember how crazy Kansas City was about Hosmer at this time last year?
- By the way, that bullet just cemented Eric Hosmer’s Hall-of-Fame career.
- And I leave you with a question that I have thought about, but really haven’t made up my mine yet. I want your help … which season was worse, 2006 or this one?
And there you have it. I am sure your Ramblings withdrawals have been severe. I can only hope this helps.
