From the Wire … Cubs Claim Jairo Asencio from Indians, Designate Bowden for Assignment

According to a report from Keith Law, the Cubs claimed right handed pitcher Jairo Asencio off waivers from the Cleveland Indians. To make room on the 40-man roster, Michael Bowden was designated for assignment.

The Cubs are expected to make the moves official on Friday afternoon. Jairo Asencio posted a 1-1 record in 18 games with the Indians this season. The 28-year old right hander (May 5, 1984, 6-foot-2, 180 pounds) allowed 17 runs on 27 hits with 21 strikeouts and eight walks in 25 2/3 innings this season.

Michael Bowden struggled since being acquired from the Boston Red Sox. In 10 games, Bowden allowed eight runs on 14 hits and posted a 7.45 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP,
