From the Wire … Cubs Call-up Manny Corpas, Place Blake Parker on the 60-Day DL

June 6, 2012 2:15 pm By Neil 9 Comments

Updated 2:38pm – According to multiple reports, the Cubs have purchased the contract of Manny Corpas from Triple-A Iowa. Corpas has been added to the 40-man roster and is with the team in Milwaukee. Blake Parker has been placed on the 60-day DL with right elbow stress reaction. Paker cannot pickup a baseball for 30 days. With the Cubs placing Blake Parker on the 60-day DL, they created a roster spot to add Manny Corpas.

According to a report from ESPN Chicago, the Cubs have purchased the contact of Manny Corpas from the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Bruce Levine’s report does not indicate if Manny Corpas will be called up to the majors or if this is a procedural move to keep him in the Cubs system.

The Cubs 40-man roster currently stands at 40 players which does not leave room to add Manny Corpas to the big league roster. The Cubs will have to make at least one roster move, if not two, to bring up Corpas to pitch in the bullpen. The Cubs could look to remove Blake Lalli from the 40-man roster and assign him to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs are currently carrying four catchers on the 40-man roster. Reportedly Koyie Hill will remain with the team until Geovany Soto is able to return from the DL. Soto is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Friday.

Manny Corpas has had his good outings and not-so-good outings for the I-Cubs this season. Corpas is 0-2 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. In 33 2/3 innings (19 games), Corpas has allowed 16 runs, 15 earned, on 30 hits with nine walks, 19 strikeouts and he’s hit four batters.
