Cubs Sending Six to the Arizona Fall League

August 30, 2011 3:38 pm By Neil 10 Comments

According to multiple reports Tuesday afternoon, the Cubs will send six players to the Arizona Fall League.

Top prospects Brett Jackson and Trey McNutt will suit up for the Mesa Solar Sox along with Chris Carpenter, Junior Lake, D.J. LeMahieu and Andrew Cashner. Jeff Beliveau will be on the taxi squad. It appears the Cubs are planning on using the AFL as a way to get players that spent time on the DL this season a full year of playing time (between minors, majors and the AFL).

According to multiple reports, Andrew Cashner will be used as a starter in the AFL in order to prepare him to go into camp next spring to compete for a spot in the rotation. The Cubs are planning on limiting Cashner’s innings this fall as well as monitor his progress.

The Arizona Fall League begins its 20th season on Tuesday, October 4.
