Cubs Avoid Arbitration with Baker … Tender Contracts to All Arbitration Eligible Players

December 2, 2010 2:08 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

According to multiple reports, the Cubs tendered contracts for the 2011 season to all arbitration eligible players before Thursday’s deadline.

The Cubs avoided arbitration with Jeff Baker and agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.175 million. The Cubs tendered contracts for 2011 to Carlos Marmol, Geovany Soto, Sean Marshall, Tom Gorzelanny, Koyie Hill and Jeff Baker prior to Thursday’s deadline. Both Baker and Hill were non-tender candidates.

Baker agreed to a one-year contract and avoided arbitration. The feeling is the Cubs will work out deals with Hill and Gorzelanny soon … but Marmol, Marshall and Soto could take a while. Marmol and Marshall are up for substantial raises from their 2010 salaries (Marmol, $2.125 million – Marshall, $950,000) and Soto figures to get a large pay increase as well in his first year of arbitration eligibility (Soto, $575,000 in 2010).

Stay Tuned …
