From the Wire … Trammell to Join Gibson’s Staff

October 26, 2010 12:01 am By Neil Leave a Comment

As expected, Alan Trammell’s days with the Chicago Cubs have come to an end. According to a report from Diamondbacks.com, Alan Trammell will join Kirk Gibson’s staff in Arizona.

Trammell will serve as Gibson’s bench coach, the same position Gibson held on Trammell’s staff in Detroit. Trammell is not the only new D’Backs coach that has a history with the Chicago National League Ball Club. Along with Trammell, Kirk Gibson’s staff will consist of Don Baylor and Eric Young. Baylor will be the team’s new hitting coach while Young will coach first base.

Charles Nagy is expected to be named as the team’s pitching coach.

With the departure of Alan Trammell, Mike Quade will have at least one spot to fill on his coaching staff.

Pat Listach, who was in the running for the skipper’s job in Milwaukee, is expected to join Quade’s staff and serve as either his bench coach or third base coach.

Larry Rothschild, Rudy Jaramillo and Lester Strode will return to the Cubs in the same capacity but the futures of Ivan DeJesus, Bobby Dernier and Matt Sinatro with the Cubs are uncertain at this time.

Reportedly the Cubs will announce the coaching staff before the organizational meetings begin (scheduled for the first week of November in Mesa).
