Aramis Ramirez will Exercise 2011 Option … and Stay with the Cubs

September 14, 2010 12:13 am By Neil Leave a Comment

According to a report from the Sun-Times, Aramis Ramirez will exercise his player option for 2011 and remain with the Chicago Cubs.

Ramirez told the Sun-Times on Monday, “I’m staying here.” Aramis Ramirez will earn $14.6 million in 2011 and has a club option for 2012 worth $16 million, with a $2 million buyout. Ramirez has been vague in recent days about his future with the Cubs, but put an end to the speculation on Monday.

With Ramirez exercising his option, he is guaranteed $16.6 million … with a possibility of earning $30.6 million for 2011 and 2012.

Ramirez added, “And you can print it. I have confidence in Jim Hendry. He’s a smart guy. He’s going to turn this around.”
