From the Wire … Fontenot Traded to Giants, Grabow Out for Season

August 11, 2010 7:02 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

According to multiple reports, Mike Fontenot was traded to the San Francisco Giants Wednesday afternoon for Single-A outfielder Evan Crawford. Fontenot will walk across the field and be in uniform for the Giants Wednesday night. Darwin Barney should be called up and added to the Cubs 40-man roster soon.

The Cubs also announced John Grabow will be out for the remainder of the season. An MRI revealed a MCL tear in his left knee. Evan Crawford was the Giants 9th round pick in the 2009 draft. The 22-year right-handed outfielder (August 5, 1988) hit just .255/.319/.366/.684 in High-A ball this season. Crawford is a strikeout machine (108 in 109 games) but appears to have quite bit of speed.
