From the Wire … Cubs Call-up Starlin Castro

According to a tweet from Enrigue Rojas of ESPN Deportes, the Cubs have called up Starlin Castro.

Rojas said Castro is on his way to Cincinnati to join the team.

Updated – 10:12am CDT – Starlin Castro has been called up according to a tweet from Dave Kaplan. Castro will start at short with Ryan Theriot moving to second base.

Chad Tracy will be sent to the minors to make room for Castro on the 25-man roster.

Updated – 11:16am CDT – In other minor league moves, Andrew Cashner was promoted to Triple-A Iowa and Josh Vitters was moved up to Double-A Tennessee on Friday.

Updated – 2:02pm CDT – Chad Tracy Optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room on active roster for Starlin Castro. Castro and Theriot on field at Great American Ball Park working with Alan Trammell just before 2:00pm CDT.
This is the only report stating Starlin Castro has been called-up. If Castro is on his way to Cincinnati, the Cubs would have to make another roster move. Mike Fontenot and Jeff Baker are out of options.

The Cubs 40-man roster currently sits at 39 players.

Updated 10:12am CDT – Dave Kaplan confirmed Starlin Castro has been called-up and added to the Cubs 40-man roster. Chad Tracy will be sent down.
