New Faces on the Cubs Twenty-Ten Opening Day Roster

April 4, 2010 12:05 am By Neil Leave a Comment

For the second season in a row, the Chicago Cubs will begin the year with 13 players that were not on the team’s Opening Day roster the previous year. However, with all of the change that took place over the winter and during Spring Training, the Cubs starting eight for the first pitch of Twenty-Ten will have only one new face … Marlon Byrd.

The Cubs will also feature a very young and inexperienced bullpen. Carlos Marmol, the lone holdover from Opening Day in Houston last season, will headline a relief corp full of mostly homegrown players.

The Cubs will place Ted Lilly and Angel Guzman on the disabled list and purchase the contracts of James Russell and Chad Tracy in order to round out their 25-man roster. Once Tracy and Russell are officially added, the Cubs 40-man roster will have one open spot.

Here are the players the Cubs will open Twenty-Ten with on their active 25-man roster …

Updated 5:15pm CDT – The Cubs officially added James Russell and Chad Tracy to 40-man roster on Sunday afternoon. Russell changed his number from 76 to 40.
