In a rather surprising move, the Cubs moved Carlos Zambrano to the bullpen effective Friday. According to multiple reports Zambrano is okay with the move and will serve as the Cubs’ primary right-handed setup man to Carlos Marmol.
With the return of Ted Lilly on Saturday, the Cubs rotation will be Lilly, Ryan Dempster, Randy Wells, Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny. Indications are this might not be a temporary move. Lou Piniella told reporters “this makes all of the sense in the world. The Cubs are trying to solidify the backend of the pen as well as straighten out Carlos Zambrano according to one report.
