Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Reds – 03/29/10

March 29, 2010 12:45 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

Spring Training Game Twenty-Seven: Cubs (14-9-3) vs. Reds (9-12-2)
Game Time – 3:05pm CDT
Coverage – TV: None – Radio: XM Channel 184, MLB.com (Reds Feed)
Location – HoHoKam Park, Mesa

Randy Wells (2-0, 5.68/1.42) vs. Carlos Fisher (0-0, 6.75/2.63)

Lou Piniella’s crew opens the 2010 season one week from today in Atlanta. Spring Training is coming to an end and the last available roster spot is supposed to be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday … Chad Tracy or Kevin Millar will break camp with the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs play the Reds in Cincinnati during the first weekend of the season. Wells will not face the Reds during that series but do not expect him to show much to Dusty Baker’s offense this afternoon.

Derrek Lee is expected back in the starting lineup today after being scratched from Sunday’s lineup with a sore foot. Randy Wells will make his next to last start of the spring. Wells has been solid, for the most part, in his first four games in the Cactus League … Wells pitched last week in a minor league game at Fitch Park to stay on schedule.

Wells has allowed eight runs on 13 hits, hit a batter, walked four and struck out seven in 12 2/3 innings.

Carlos Fisher will make his third appearance and first start of the spring today. Fisher has allowed two runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Fisher is one of the many good young arms in the Reds’ system … one that caused the Cubs a lot of trouble last season.

Justin Lehr, Jared Burton, Kip Wells, Matt Maloney and Arthur Rhodes are expected to follow Carlos Fisher this afternoon.
