Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Diamondbacks – 03/25/10

Spring Training Game Twenty-Three: Cubs (12-8-2) vs. Diamondbacks (10-11-1)
Game Time – 3:05pm CDT
Coverage – TV: None – Radio: MLB.com (Cubs Feed)
Location – Tucson Electric Park, Tucson

Tom Gorzelanny (0-1, 3.12/1.62) vs. Dan Haren (1-1, 2.63/1.17)

The Cubs will make their last trip of the spring to Tucson this afternoon to face Dan Haren and the D’Backs. Haren faced Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs back on March 5 at HoHoKam Park. Haren pitched two perfect innings in his first start before turning the game over to the pen … the Cubs won the game 8-7 behind solid performances from several of the young Cubs. But that was then …

The Cubs close out the exhibition season with two more against the Diamondbacks on April 2 and April 3 at Chase Field. Tom Gorzelanny will make his third start and fourth appearance of the spring. Gorzelanny has been very inconsistent this spring. When he has thrown strikes, teams have struggled making contact … but eight walks in 8 2/3 innings is a horrible walk rate.

Gorzelanny has allowed five runs, three earned, on just five hits in 8 2/3 innings … with 10 strikeouts and eight walks.

Dan Haren is one of the best in the game … and it will be interesting to see the lineup Lou Piniella runs out against him. Haren will make his fifth start of the spring this afternoon. In the first four, just four runs on 12 hits with four walks and 12 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings.
