Not So Fast … Naples Still in Running for Cubs Spring Training Home

January 22, 2010 9:39 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

It appears the reports on Thursday from Dave Kaplan and the Chicago Tribune jumped the gun about the Cubs reaching a tentative deal to stay in Mesa, Arizona.

According to a report from NaplesNews.com, Collier County “isn’t out of the spring training run quite yet.”

“Officials with the city of Mesa and the Collier County group trying to bring the team to Florida for spring training have said they have not received word about a spring training decision.”

Governor Charlie Crist spoke to Tom Ricketts and was told by Mr. Ricketts that a decision has not been made. From NaplesNews.com:

“(The owners) told me, ‘You know governor, you’re going to see some things coming out in the press but no decision has been made,'” Crist said.

Peter Chase confirmed, “the Cubs owners have not yet decided on a spring training home.”

A decision is on the horizon … but the reports on Thursday appear premature at best.
