Cubs Down of the Farm Report – 06/04/09

Here is your mid-week update for our Young Cubs. Unlike last week, this week has been very calm and the offenses of pretty much all the teams have been quiet. The Smokies have now lost 11 in a row and they are quickly falling way out of contention at 9.5 games back. Tony Thomas has seen his average fall over 70 points in just the past two weeks, but pretty much everyone in Tennessee has stopped hitting of late.

Peoria Chiefs – Class A

Monday 6/1 – No Game Scheduled

Tuesday 6/2 – Chiefs come back late and pick up a 3-2 victory over Beloit

  • Winning Pitcher: Mike Perconte (3-1)
  • Offense: Junior Lake: 1-for-4, 2 R; Josh Harrison: 1-for-2, 1 double, 2 BB; Rebel Ridling: 2-for-4, 2 RBI

Wednesday 6/3 – Chiefs win a close one against Beloit, 2-1

  • Winning Pitcher: Marcus Hatley (4-3)
  • Offense: Junior Lake: 1-for-3, 1 R; Rebel Ridling: 1-for-3, 2 RBI

Monday 6/1 – Ryan Searle and the pen shut out the Sarasota Reds, 4-0

  • Winning Pitcher: Ryan Searle (4-3)
  • Offense: Tony Campana: 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 SB; Starlin Castro: 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB; Robinson Chirinos: 2-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI

Tuesday 6/2 – Daytona out-hits the Reds, but can’t score and lose 1-6

  • Offense: Tony Campana: 2-for-4; Starlin Castro: 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB; Robinson Chirinos: 1-for-1, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1RBI

Wednesday 6/3 – Cubs can’t mount a comeback, lose 1-8 to Charlotte Stone Crabs

  • Losing Pitcher: Dan McDaniel (3-2)
  • Offense: Robinson Chirinos: 0-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB; Marwin Gonzalez: 1-for-2, 1 R

Tennessee Smokies – Class AA

Monday 6/1 – Smokies’ streak runs to 9 losses in a row; lose 2-9 to the Carolina Mudcats

  • Losing Pitcher: Hung-Wen Chen (2-5)
  • Offense: Ty Wright: 2-for-4, 1 R; Tyler Colvin: 1-for-2, 1 double, 1 BB; Jonathan Mota: 1-for-1, 1 HR

Tuesday 6/2 – Smokies drop 10th in a row; lose 0-1 in 10 innings to the Mudcats

  • Losing Pitcher: Todd Blackford (1-2)
  • Offense: Ty Wright: 2-for-4; Blake Lalli, Tony Thomas, and Welington Castillo: 1-for-4 each

Wednesday 6/3 – The streak continues-Smokies drop 11th in a row, give up winning run in the bottom of the 9th to the Mudcats

  • Offense: James Adduci: 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 triple, 1 RBI; Tyler Colvin: 2-for-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI; Ty Wright: 1-for-4, 1 RBI

Monday 6/1 – One big inning dooms Atkins and the Cubs; lose 2-6 to the Memphis Redbirds

Wednesday 6/3 – Iowa is shut out for the 2nd straight game-loses 0-3 to Nashville
