Cubs Down on the Farm Report – 06/01/09

June 1, 2009 1:00 am By Nate Leave a Comment

Here is your end of the week update from the Cubs’ Minor League System. Josh Vitters continues to hit home runs and he is now up to 13 on the year for the Chiefs. If you check out the transaction log you will see that Tyler Colvin was called up to Tennessee from Daytona on Sunday.

Andrew Cashner started Sunday and went four innings without giving up a run…Cashner walked just one, so his control has been greatly improved over the past two starts.

The Smokies had the worst end of the week of the season; they are on an eight-game losing streak and had to play seven games in the span of four days with three double-headers. The worst part of this streak is that the losses have come at the hands of their division leader the Hunstville Stars, so the Smokies have lost eight games in the standings.

The Cubs also released Richie Robnett over the weekend. Robnett was put on waivers earlier in the spring and removed from the 40-man roster. Robnett was acquired in the deal with the Oakland A’s for Michael Wuertz and is no longer in the Cubs’ system.

Thanks for reading and as always you can check out my site at YoungCubsWorld.com for daily updates. Here are the standings for the Cubs’ system only:
