Cubs Down on the Farm Report – 05/28/09

Here is your mid-week update for our Young Cubs. This was one heck of a busy beginning to the week for call-ups; of course the big one was Jake Fox getting called up to Chicago from Iowa. Bobby Scales was sent back down to Iowa on Wednesday but appears to be headed back to Chicago with Ryan Freel going on the DL.

Josh Vitters was named Midwest League Player of the Week on Tuesday. Vitters hit .476 with seven home runs, 11 runs scored and 14 RBI over a ten game stretch.

Andrew Cashner had a great start for Daytona (yes they finally got to play a game); he went 5 innings and gave up only one earned run and did not walk a batter.

Monday 5/25 – No Game Scheduled

Tuesday 5/26 – Bullpen ruins Cashner’s chance at a victory, Cardinals score 2 in the 9th, Cubs lose 2-3

  • Offense: Tony Campana: 3-for-5, 1 double; Mark Reed: 2-for-3, 1 triple, 2 RBI

Wednesday 5/27 – Daytona’s bat go ice cold and the Cubs lose 0-6 to the Palm Beach Cardinals

  • Losing Pitcher: Ryan Searle (3-3)
  • Offense: Tyler Colvin: 1-for-4, 1 triple (only hit that Daytona had all night)

Monday 5/25 – Offense goes cold for the Smokies – Lose 2-8 to the Birmingham Barons

Game One: Smokies come from behind to steal a victory 8-6 in game one against the Huntsville Stars
