April 8, 2009 1:00 am By Neil Leave a Comment

The Iowa Cubs, Daytona Cubs and Peoria Chiefs released their 2009 Opening Day Rosters on Tuesday…a day after the Tennessee Smokies.

The Iowa Cubs will open the season in Round Rock (Houston Astros) on Thursday. Mitch Atkins will get the ball for the first game. Jose Ascanio, Esmailin Caridad, Jeff Samardzija and Randy Wells will follow Atkins in first year manager Bobby Dickerson’s rotation.

The Daytona Cubs open their 2009 campaign on Thursday on the road against the Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee Brewers). Marcos Mateo and Tyler Colvin will begin the year with the D-Cubs.

The Peoria Chiefs will be led by Josh Vitters and Aaron Shafer to begin the season. The Chiefs open their season against the Kane County Cougars (Oakland A’s) on Thursday. Other notables on the Chiefs roster include Ryan Flaherty, Kyler Burke, Chris Carpenter, Rebel Ridling and Junior Lake. 2009 Iowa Cubs Opening Day Roster
