Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Dodgers – 03/06/09

Spring Training Game Eleven: Cubs (5-5) vs. Dodgers (4-4)
Game Time – 2:05pm C.T.
Coverage – TV: None – Radio: WGN Radio, XM Channel 179
Location – HoHoKam Park, Mesa

Ryan Dempster (0-1, 0.00/1.50) vs. Randy Wolf (1-0, 0.00/0.00)

After spending the last two days in Las Vegas and losing their last three games in a row, Lou Piniella’s crew will return to HoHoKam and face the Dodgers for the second time this spring. Manny Ramirez is not expected to play for a while after finally agreeing to a 2-year deal with the Dodgers….if Los Angeles can put together a pitching staff they will be a force in the Senior Circuit all summer.

Ryan Dempster will make his second start of the exhibition season and face the Dodgers for the first time since the Game One debacle last October. Dempster pitched well last Sunday against the Padres in Peoria, especially in the second inning. Dempster took the loss as his defense committed two errors in the first inning and Jake Peavy’s team took advantage of the opportunities.

Milton Bradley is expected to start the game in right field after going 1-for-3 with a double on Wednesday against the Indians. The Cubs beat the Dodgers 5-3 in the Cactus League opener on February 25. Ken Kadokura got the win on Ron Santo’s birthday. Today, Lou Piniella’s crew will face a familiar foe in Randy Wolf. Wolf shutdown the Cubs at Wrigley in an Astros’ uniform last season and signed with the Dodgers in the off-season after the Astros’ pulled their offer off the table.

Ryan Dempster allowed three runs, all unearned, on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in two innings of work against the Padres. Dempster threw the ball well and put together a solid second inning of work in his first spring tune-up.
