Marmol Might Skip the WBC

February 20, 2009 1:43 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

Carlos Marmol announced on Friday, according to a report on Cubs.com, that he “is reconsidering whether he will pitch for the Dominican Republic” in the WBC. For weeks it has appeared that Marmol would be the closer for Team Dominican Republic, but Marmol wants to be the Cubs closer.

Carlos Marmol is expected to announce his decision on Saturday. From Cubs.com: “I want to be the closer here. I need to work here. I’m not sure I’m going [to the World Baseball Classic].”

According to the report Marmol will take to Felipe Alou the manager for the Dominican team then make his decision.

Geovany Soto, Kosuke Fukudome and Ted Lilly are still expected to participate. The final rosters for all WBC teams are due on Tuesday.
