According to a report from Cubs.com, Joey Gathright signed a 1-year deal with the Cubs on Tuesday morning. Gathright was non-tendered last week by the Kansas City Royals and played for Lou Piniella in Tampa. The 1-year deal is a Major League contract and he is expected to compete for a spot on the Cubs’ bench next season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
