Soto Named NL Rookie of the Month

During the Cubs impressive win against the Diamondbacks on Friday, the announcement was made that Geovany Soto was named the National League Rookie of the Month for April. Soto earned the first monthly honor handed out to the league’s top rookie performer….the new award is sponsored by Gillette. Soto received more votes than teammate Kosuke Fukudome and both Jair Jurrjens of the Braves and Kyle McClellan of the Cardinals. David Murphy of the Rangers was voted the top rookie for the American League.

Geovany Soto hit .341 in the first month of the season with a .424 OBP and a .635 SLG to go along with 8 doubles, a triple, 5 home runs and 20 RBI’s with 54 total bases….and an impressive 1.060 OPS.
