Roberts Talk on Hold….For Now?

March 8, 2008 4:00 am By Neil Leave a Comment

According to a report on Friday night from Jeff Zrebiec, discussion between the Cubs and Orioles on the long-rumored deal for Brian Roberts “have cooled“. Zrebiec stated the two teams cannot agree on a package that would benefit both teams….”pushing the deal toward Opening Day or beyond.”

According to the report in the Baltimore Sun, two sources have indicated the Cubs have offered a package that would include Ronny Cedeno, Sean Gallagher, Donald Veal and one other player, “but the Orioles are holding out for a better offer.” Scouts from both teams are in Arizona and Florida, respectively, looking at players that would be involved in the deal. Zrebiec stated the deal could involve a fifth player and other sources have indicated there have been discussions that have included Jay Payton and Jason Marquis.

Roberts was 2-for-3 on Friday with a RBI and a walk….for the spring, Roberts is hitting .357 with a .471 OBP (5-for-14) with 2 doubles, 3 walks, 5 stolen bases and only 1 strikeout.

How things change in less than 5 days….
