While the Cubs first telecast of the spring is not until Saturday against the Angels, Pat Hughes and Ron Santo will broadcast the play-by-play on 720 WGN from Scottsdale.

Lou Piniella’s starting lineup in his second year with the Cubs in Arizona will be without two familiar faces. Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano are not scheduled to play today but are expected to be back in lineup for the Cubs home opener at HoHoKam Park on Friday. Starting Lineup

  1. Ryan Theriot – SS
  2. Ronny Cedeno – 3B
  3. Kosuke Fukudome – RF

  5. Matt Murton – LF

  7. Alex Cintron – 2B
  8. Felix Pie – CF

Ryan Dempster will take the hill first and is expected to throw around 2 innings. Sean Gallagher is scheduled to follow Dempster. Other pitchers scheduled to pitch on Thursday:

  • Neal Cotts
  • Jose Ceda
  • Carmen Pignatiello
  • Jose Ascanio
  • Kevin Hart

cactusleague.jpgFor those of you new to the site, the CCO will provide game previews throughout the year that allows readers to discuss the game as it is being played. With the Cubs coming off a division crown and the debut of Fukudome there figures to be plenty of interest in today’s exhibition game….despite the fact the game is not televised.

Check back after the game for a full recap from Scottsdale and photos from the first game of the spring.

On a side note, today marks the start of the third season of Cubs baseball on this site.
