Updated – 2:03pm – Roberto Novoa transferred to 60-Day DL to make room for Sean Gallagher on the 40-man roster. The Cubs officially selected Sean Gallagher from Double-A Tennessee and is available out of the bullpen for Thursday’s game against the Brewers.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs have placed Angel Guzman on the 15-day DL and are expected to call up Sean Gallagher from Double-A Tennessee. Guzman was placed on the DL with tightness in his forearm.

Sean Gallagher is expected to take Guzman’s place in the bullpen. Gallagher has not pitched above Double-A and was the Cubs’ 2005 Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Gallagher was a non-roster invitee to Arizona this past spring and was a 12th round pick by the Cubs in 2004. Before this season, Sean Gallagher had recorded 354 strikeouts in 180 2/3 professional innings. This season with the Smokies, Gallagher was 7-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 11 games (all starts). In 61 innings he struck out 54 and walked 24.

Gallagher was 1-0 in 4 games (1 start) this past spring with the Cubs. In 7 innings he gave up 6 runs on 9 hits, walked 4 and did not record a strikeout.
