Pitching and Roster Spots

March 6, 2007 9:23 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

Mark Prior to Pitch Saturday….Wade Miller to face Greg Maddux on Thursday….Kerry Wood to pitch out of the pen on Thursday….Ryan Theriot to be Cubs primary extra infielder….Ted Lilly named the Game 2 starter against the Reds

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, Mark Prior will pitch out of the bullpen on Saturday when the Cubs face the Kansas City Royals. Ted Lilly will start the game and Prior will pitch in relief. Wade Miller will face Greg Maddux on Thursday when the Cubs play the San Diego Padres in Peoria with Kerry Wood scheduled to pitch in relief on Thursday. Neal Cotts will start one of Friday’s split squad games against the Texas Rangers in Surprise, the other game is against the Padres at HoHoKam and Friday will be the first time Sammy Sosa has faced his old team.

The same report in the Tribune stated Ryan Theriot will be the Cubs primary extra infielder. With Theriot apparently being named to the 25-man roster, there leaves only one roster spot up for grabs and Angel Pagan and Felix Pie appear to be the front runners according to the Tribune’s Paul Sullivan.

Roberto Novoa will make his first appearance of the spring on Wednesday (A’s) and Cliff Floyd is expected to play either Sunday (Brewers) or Monday (Giants).
