Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs avoid arbitration and sign a 1-year deal

According to a report on Cubs.com, the Cubs and Carlos Zambrano avoided arbitration and signed a 1-year deal prior to entering the arbitration hearing. There are rumors that have surfaced to the amount of the deal but no official word yet. Will update as soon as those numbers are released. The Cubs streak remains in tact….
Update – A report on Yahoo Sports.com, citing ESPN 1000 in Chicago as their source, stated the Cubs and Zambrano settled on a 1-year, $12.4 million dollar deal. The agent for Zambrano, Barry Praver, and Jim Hendry met at the Cubs practice facility to discuss a multi-year deal. Zambrano was seeking $15.5 million and the Cubs were offering $11.025 million. According to the report, the Cubs will continue to try to workout a long-term deal with their ace.
