Is It Next Year?

January 1, 2007 12:30 am By Neil Leave a Comment

Happy New Year!!!! While everyone is gearing up for a full day of College Football, here are a few numbers to remember…. 45, 59 and 91, as in 45 days until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training, 59 days until the first Spring Training game against the San Francisco Giants in Mesa and 91 days until Opening Day in Cincinnati against the Reds.

The Cubs still have several questions to answer before they take the field for the first full team workout at Fitch Park on February 20th. Who will patrol the outfield for the Cubs in 2007? Will Jacque Jones remain a Cub? Will Mark Prior be in camp healthy and on time? What about Kerry Wood? Will Carlos Zambrano agree to a new deal before Spring Training starts? How will the Cubs bench take shape and will Lou Piniella have the depth he so desires? When those questions are answered you will be able to read about and discuss those topics here. The CCO will have updated news and commentary throughout the year plus first hand coverage of the Cubs Convention, opening weekend of Spring Training and Opening Day in Cincinnati. The redesign of the site is underway and will be up as soon as possible, plus if you would like to write your own feedback column, just email me at neil@chicagocubsonline.com and your opinion will be front and center for all to discuss.

For years I have heard the Cubs will win the World Series when pigs fly….well, guess what, this is the year of the pig. The excitement and anticipation of the 2007 season is building as everyday passes…. Stay tuned for the ride!!!
