Game One Hundred Thirty-Nine: Cubs (55-83) vs. Pirates (56-83)
Game Time – 7:05pm C.T. Comcast SportsNet, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 189
Location – Wrigley Field, Chicago
Rich Hill (4-6, 5.23) vs. Zach Duke (8-13, 4.97)
Rich Hill takes the mound tonight for the Cubs in search of back-to-back wins and to end the Cubs current 4-game losing streak and 5-game losing streak to the Pirates….their first since 1990. Hill was very impressive against the Giants last Friday and he will face a lefty that the Cubs have had very little success against in Zach Duke. The Cubs beat Duke the last time they faced him on August 5th and scored 5 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings….that was Mark Prior’s only victory of the season. Hill is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA against the Pirates this season; he allowed just 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings of work against the Bucs back on August 6th. The Cubs need a similar performance tonight from the talented lefty in order to get them out of the basement of the National League. Hill has been a very positive addition to the rotation after his last call-up. In 7 games, 6 starts, Hill is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA (14 earned runs in 42 2/3 innings).
Zach Duke is coming off of a strong outing against the Cardinals. He did record the loss but held the Cardinals to just 3 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings of work. Duke has been very inconsistent this season but in his last 5 starts he has given up more than 3 runs only once. Duke is 4-1 in 5 career games against the Cubs with a 1.66 ERA and 1 complete game.
The Cubs enter tonight’s game a season low 28 games under .500.
